WriteLife Announces The Four Winds, a Book of Heritage and Poetry

(Omaha, NE; September 11th , 2009) – WriteLife, LLC, a unique collaborative publishing company for fiction and non-fiction authors, announces The Four Winds, the most recent publication and collection of poems from Melanie Marie Shifflett Ridner. The book is available on the site at

http://www.writelife.com/ and major online retailers such as Target, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.

Ms. Ridner is a Native American writer, poet, and an ASCAP Songwriter who celebrates her heritage of being part of the Ridge Top Shawnee tribe through her writing. As a child, she was raised by an aunt who instilled in her the appreciation for their history during an era that did not embrace multiculturalism.

At the encouragement of her aunt and a friend, Louis Hooban, Ms. Ridner has clung to her culture and expresses the sense of honor attached to Native American traditions through her writing. Her goal with this compilation of poems was to “create a book for the memory of my aunt and Louis Hooban, as well as the Native American Indians.”

“The love of my Indian heritage has kept me writing. As long as the Ancient Ones will keep me well, I will continue to write,” stated Ms. Ridner. “I believe the Great Spirit has kept me alive for a special reason.” Because of this, she has created over one hundred poems showing tribute to her cultural identity, with particular focus on nature, ceremonies, and the tribe. “I want people to learn about the ways of our people and to understand that we do not walk alone in this world, even as times change.”

Ms. Ridner would like to “thank WriteLife.com for publishing me and for their fantastic quality services that have also enriched my life as an author.” The WriteLife.com Web site has attracted numerous authors due to its enhanced speed of collaborative publishing paired with personal interaction; the combination has proved to be a successful approach for emerging and seasoned authors. WriteLife.com features writing tools for any age, with tailored navigation and publishing tools.
